Every once in a long while I find a spot to paint that has a perfect natural composition. No adjustments needed of trees, mountains or dirt roads. This spot in Northeast Santa Fe is one of these places. I try to paint this spot a few times a year. Of course it is never exactly the same as the last time I saw it. I have painted it with snow in the Winter, soft greens in Spring, dark and cloudy with rain during the Late Summer Monsoons and with Yellow Chamisa blooming in Autumn, and I have seen it painted in all of these ways by other painters. Many artists paint a favorite place multiple times. It is a way to judge artistic progress over the years. It is also a challenge to capture the uniqueness of the place in each of the different seasons and types of light. This version represents a beautiful Summer Morning with the Afternoon Monsoon clouds beginning to form above the Sangre de Christo Mountains. I can't wait until next time!
